sale_250_120So to help you with your wish lists, I am linking up with Amy Abbott over at Music a la Abbott for the Rockin’ Resources Linky Party along with some other TpT music teachers and sharing some of my favorite things…

Linky Party Promo.001

Part of the linky party is to blog about one product of your own and two by other TpT sellers. So first I thought I would share one of my products that I haven’t talked much about because I’ve been focusing a lot on what I’m doing this year. One of my past incentive programs I did several years ago was Magic of Music. This program was so fun to do and the students loved it! Students focus on having 5 star pieces throughout the year with this program. They main areas of focus was Rhythm, Notes, Dynamics, Articulation and Artistry. At the end of the year I hired a magician to come out to our party and entertain. It truly was a magical year for students!

Magic of Music CollageI’m planning on doing a little facelift on this one later this year. If interested, you can purchase it now while it’s on sale, then when I do the facelift, you just re-download and have the update. 🙂

This year as you know we are doing the theme Reach Beyond the Stars. I shared some resources that I’ve used with my students but haven’t shared this one yet. Treble Wars and Bass Wars by Jena Hudson.

Screen Shot 2014-11-30 at 4.10.28 PMTreble Wars and Bass Wars are fun worksheets students can do reviewing their treble and bass clef notes. From naming notes, labeling, matching, finding out a mystery word or message, coloring and more! Students will be so busy having fun with these worksheets that they won’t realize they are doing theory!

The worksheets are in a Star Wars theme which works out perfectly with our program this year. You can have students do them during a class setting, lab setting or give them as a take home assignment.

Another TpT product from another store that I wanted to feature was from Student Savvy, Around the World Music Unit. As you know I have really enjoyed creating Christmas Around the World this year for my students. It was really fun learning about Christmas traditions from around the world. So when I came across Around the World Music Unit from Student Savvy, I had to snag it thinking it might make a great resource for summer camp this year! This unit includes read and learn pages with video clips you can share with your students. My favorite is the “what I learned” recall pages. It also includes worksheets of exploring musicians/instruments/songs, listening activities, test your knowledge activities, and flashcards for the classroom. I cannot wait to use this resource!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy ThanksgivingHappy Thanksgiving! May you and yours have a blessed day!

I am so grateful for each of you! Just 4 1/2 years ago I decided to start blogging and created FPSResources. My desire was to share resources and ideas with music teachers.

4 years later I decided to jump into TpT and share even more resources while helping my family. I decided to set aside anything I made from TpT to help my children with their education, mission, weddings (though this one can wait!!!), etc… My son is currently serving a full-time church mission, and my daughter is a freshman in college. I feel very blessed that I can help them during this time in their lives. I am soooo grateful for the support you have given me through the blog and/or TpT. It is my hope that I have helped you in some way these past 4 1/2 years. Enjoy the time you have with your family today!

(Thank you to The Creative Chalkboard for the cute Thanksgiving sign!)

sELFless Challenge Freebie

In conjunction with the Creative Clips sELFless challenge week, I made this penguin listening glyph with her adorable penguin clipart. One of my favorite musicals is Mary Poppins so I thought it would be a fun activity for this time of year to combine the penguin clipart to the penguin song in Mary Poppins.

You can download it for free here or by clicking on the picture. Enjoy, please remember to leave a comment if you download. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Christmas Gift Ideas Revisited

I thought I would post some links to past posts of Christmas gift ideas. Last year was my favorite one by far.

Screen Shot 2014-11-21 at 9.50.01 AMHere is the link. If you scroll down on the comments, you will find steps I took to do what I did because the site can be a little confusing when you get started.

Here are a couple other links for some ideas…

Pirate Christmas gifts– taking a creation from the student and turning it into a gift. You can do this with just a “general” Christmas theme.

Gift ideas for Students– different affordable ideas over the years.

This year our theme is Reach Beyond the Stars so they will be receiving a few things. If they are participating in Music at the Mall, they will receive this

Christmas Around the World BadgesThen the 2nd week of Christmas camp everyone will receive a goodie bag, which will include: an alien ornament from Oriental Trading (I’ll write something on the back), a badge/button ornament of them at the piano along with Starbursts. I’ll post a picture when I have them the goodie bags all put together in a few weeks.

Here is an example of the photo badge ornament I will be making. Just add a little ribbon to a badge and it’s an ornament!

FullSizeRenderBy the way, if you are interested in having me make badges for your students, I have a couple designs available in my TpT store, but if you want something more custom just email me directly first and I can see what I can put together for you.

Review: My Piano Trip to London

Elena Cobb, composer of the popular Higgledy Piggledy Jazz has just released a new book for the beginner called “My Piano Trip to London.”

Screen Shot 2014-11-20 at 8.03.18 AMStudents will learn about basic musical concepts, some tid bits about London and play some fun pieces with lyrics! The teacher duets that are included are the cherry on top of this delicious dessert!

I loved that Elena included a Map of London (almost) which allows for some discussion that is followed up within the book.

Screen Shot 2014-11-20 at 8.05.41 AM

For example, one of my favorite features of My Piano Trip to London is the Fab Fact, where a fact about London is shared. Students can read the fab fact and then they can go find it on the map.

Screen Shot 2014-11-20 at 8.21.17 AM

Another favorite feature included in My Piano Trip to London is the Top Tip. These are little practice tips for the students to remember when they are practicing.

Screen Shot 2014-11-20 at 8.17.35 AM Screen Shot 2014-11-20 at 8.19.14 AMAlso included in My Piano Trip to London is a Fun Activities such as this one… Do you recognize the cat?

Screen Shot 2014-11-20 at 8.39.52 AMWe are BBC fans at our house. Dr. Who and Sherlock are some of our favorites to watch. Right now Dr. Who is bigger then ever, many students know and watch it. So when I saw there was a piece called TV Station BBC I just had to play it with a student. You can enjoy it here, we had a lot of fun with that piece!

Now when you look at the sample music below you will notice what Elena did with this piece. What better way to practice B and C then have a piece about TV Station BBC!

Screen Shot 2014-11-20 at 8.38.25 AMYou can find samples of all the pages in this book at ElenaCobb.com in addition to hearing the duets.  This 44 page book is wired bound and will have complementary stickers and downloadable play-along tracks available to purchase. You can pre-order today here! It should be ready to ship by Wednesday.

Elena has generously offered to give away one copy of My Piano Trip to London to a lucky teacher! To enter leave a comment below. Deadline to enter is by Sunday, November 30, 2014  TOMORROW, Wednesday, December 3, 2014; 10:00pm (AZ, MST).  GIVEAWAY HAS EXPIRED

Tech Tuesday: How long will apps really last?

So yesterday I received an email from the creators of KinderBach. They were giving the unfortunate news that the KinderBach app had to be discontinued in the app store due to the latest iOS update. They explained because Apple doesn’t give a heads up on changes, it would be way way to expensive to keep it updated. Kinderbach said, “The quote for the changes is, frankly, out of our budget and unreasonable when we know that Apple could change the operating system and we would be back at square one. We are at the mercy of Apple’s whims on this point.”

I was saddened to read this news because I enjoy having the KinderBach app as a resource on my iPad. It is a great app my younger students enjoy occasionally, full of video’s and games! All the videos and games are available online but you need to have an online membership to access them. (Which by the way is discounted right now) I don’t use them often enough to have a membership.

So this got me thinking… How long will apps really last? Is this their fate eventually? And if so, how long? The KinderBach app is not that old. Maybe 2-3 years? If the creator simply doesn’t have the budget to keep up with the continued changes (and as we all know, it is constant) then eventually they have to shut it down.

So enjoy your favorite apps to the fullest, because you never know when it won’t be available again.
