Tech Tuesday: Music Flash Class app

My favorite music flash card app is Music Flash Class. It pretty much has everything I would possibly need to review notes with students. It is fully customizable. You can add sharps and flats. You can set time limits on how quickly you want students to name notes. You can set certain goals for students within the app. There is even a 3 tap safety feature so students don’t go in and mess up your settings.

Music Flash Class is developed by Henry Flurry. I’ve reviewed this app a couple years ago and it continues to be one of my favorites. The good news is this app has recently been updated for iOS 8 and has a fresh updated look.

One of my favorite features of Music Flash Class is the Hot Potato game which is perfect for a group lesson activity! My students love this game! My tip though is make sure you set a rule that the iPad (or whatever you are using) cannot leave the floor. (Tossing it will actually cause it to buzz! You can set the sensitivity accordingly)

Here is a video of Henry’s students playing Hot Potato so you can see what fun it is!

Music Flash Class is a universal iOS app which means it can be used on the iPad, iPod or iPhone. This is an app that is not only great for the teacher to have but for students to have at home. If you ever needed an app to drill, review or test notes, this is the app to own. It is well thought out and definitely one of my favorite tools to use!

To celebrate the new update, Henry has offered to give away Music Flash Class to two teachers! To enter leave a comment below by Sunday, January 11th 10:00pm (MST). GIVEAWAY HAS EXPIRED

  1. I am definitely going to try out this app. I’m constantly looking for new apps to help reinforce concepts to my students. Thanks for keeping us updated on your favorites!

  2. I have several students who would improve greatly by using this app. Sounds like fun! A great “off-the-bench” activity! I hope I win a free app!

  3. I learn about apps through you and your posts. My students love Flashcard Derby and Noteworthy, thanks to you! Thank you for introducing me to Henry’s flash app! Looking forward to trying Music Flash Class. Winning anything would be awesome:)

  4. Would love too see this become Cloud based so those of us with Chromebooks could use it! Oh well, I have enough HS students with IPhones that we could use it.

  5. I’d love to try this app. Students don’t mind app-based flash cards as much as the old fashioned ones on cards. It’s good to have experience with them before recommening them, too. Thanks for the overview, too!!

  6. One of my favourite apps too! I get all my teen beginners using it at home everyday. They can use it on the bus or train to school so there’s no excuse! Or just 5 minutes a day before bed 🙂

  7. One of my goals this year is to use my iPad to teach theory, play games, etc. with my students. I would love to get this app!
